The 2024 Scottish Food Heritage Symposium, held on April 12th at Paisley Town Hall, was a significant event that gathered food writers, researchers, folklorists, and local businesses to discuss and celebrate Scotland’s rich food heritage. The symposium featured a variety of presentations, tastings, and the launch of the Renfrewshire Food Strategy. This new initiative aims to support local food traditions and sustainable practices in the region.

The most significant outcome of the event was the creation of a report on Scottish Food Heritage, developed from the focus groups, feedback and presentations of the symposium. This report emphasizes the cultural and economic value of Scotland’s food history and calls for increased investment in this area to ensure the preservation and promotion of Scotland’s culinary traditions.

The symposium also served as a platform for collaboration, allowing attendees to share their research and insights, ultimately fostering a stronger community focused on preserving and promoting Scottish food culture.

The event was funded by the Renfrewshire Council Culture Heritage and Events Fund and was managed by Tenement Kitchen, supported by the Glasgow University College of Arts and Humanities.
