Part 1 – Chocolate Sponge
Ingredients
- 7oz SR Flour
- 4oz Marg
- 8oz Caster Sugar
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1oz Cocoa
- 2 eggs – beaten with 5 tbsp water
- 5 tbsp evaporated Milk
- 2 tsp vanilla essence
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180 degrees centigrade
- Sieve flour, sugar, salt and cocoa
- Rub in marg
- Stir in beaten eggs, vanilla essence and evapourated milk
- Pour into a greased and floured 8 inch cake tin
- Bake for 30 – 35 minutes
Part 2 – Chocolate Icing
Ingredients
- 2oz Marg
- 1 tbsp Cocoa
- 9oz Sieved Icing Sugar
- 3 tbsp hot milk ( If you are using evaporated milk, use 6 tbsp)
- 1 tbsp Vanilla Essence
Instructions
- Melt marg
- Blend in cocoa
- Stir in sugar, milk and vanilla essence
- Beat until smooth and thick
- Allow the icing and the sponges to cool, before constructing.
